Fine sediment, resulting from erosion caused by agriculture and streambank loss, has a  significant impact on the health of the Great Barrier Reef.

The Program Manager position provides operational leadership and management for the  efficient and effective delivery of various programs and projects that will collectively:

  • Enhance the condition of natural resources and waterways by reducing the amount of  sediment entering waterways and the Great Barrier Reef lagoon.
  • Increase capacity within the region to undertake natural resource management  initiatives that reduce sediment run-off from farms; and
  • Delivering other co-benefits e.g. waterway and wetland health, biodiversity, soil health  and First Nations outcomes.

This includes management and oversight of the Reef Trust Landscape Repair Program, which is  administered by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.  Terrain NRM has a target to deliver a total of 21,000 tonnes per year of sediment reduction in the  Wet Tropics by 30 June 2030 to the Great Barrier Reef through targeted stream bank repair  interventions, in an integrated landscape repair delivery approach.

Terrain NRM is now one year into a six-year program, and the first 10 stream bank repair projects  have been selected, with various stages of planning, design, or delivery underway through an  Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Maintenance Contractor. The role will involve  providing oversight and management to the contractor, stakeholder engagement and  consultation, capacity building and reporting to the funder.

The Program Manager is also responsible for the well-being and development of several project  managers, as well as managing our relationships with organisations that provide funding and  investment to Terrain NRM, and key partners supporting engagement with landholders and the  delivery of programs and projects. The position supports the Strategy Unit Leader in designing  and implementing Strategy Unit area plans, as well as ensuring the successful operation and  continuous improvement of the organisation. Additionally, the position may also support other  Strategy Unit Leaders in designing and implementing major programs and projects as required.
